In 1997 took place the 1st centenary of the death of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus. She is known as Therese of Lisieux in the secular form of its name. From this ephemeris we found it interesting to organize a cycle called “Therese of Lisieux or the strength of weakness” which took place at the University of Lleida the days 20, 21 and 22 May 1997. The book is the result of those lectures.
The content of the book is an effort to give Therese of Lisieux the rank of a writer, avoiding the image of a childish saint full of good wishes who was always considered diminutive. It presents a strong woman in the middle of her weakness, a courageous woman who opposes being manipulated by the successive superiors of the convent, a honest woman who gives her support and help to the novices, a compassionate woman who cares about missions and sinners. Claiming the figure of Therese of Lisieux in its complexity and magnitude is certainly a challenge. From these pages Therese emerges, splendid and lucid … She is perhaps the Therese of the 21st century … or simply the Teresa of the future …
