This volume analyses the elaboration of the books of hours, pious readings that had a great diffusion in the last medieval centuries, according to the postulates of the modern devotio, a religious sensibility that advocated a type of intimate recitation. The interest of this publication lies in the fact of gathering together, for the first time in our country, a set of studies dedicated to the analysis of southern books of hours, which are unique for their respective textual and iconographic variants in comparison with other books in other European territories. From the hand of researchers and university professors of recognized international trajectory, we start a journey through the production of this type of devotion book in different European kingdoms and states, maintaining a line of continuity between the last medieval artistic manifestations and the beginnings of the Renaissance. These contributions generate research procedures that improve the study of the subject or suggest new methodological proposals based on the examination of memory and identity. In this context, it has not been an impediment to review the exquisite miniature production of an artist immersed in the Flemish universe.
