During long periods in the 20th century, the use of abundant timber resources was the fundamental pillar on which the economy of the Val d’Aran was based. Numerous activities in various fields were developed around the forests. Logging allowed the establishment of multiple wood processing industries which, in turn, represented an important factor generating employment.
This work, profusely documented and accompanied by illustrations and photos (old and current), reflects the evolution, associated with the use of wood, of the Aranese forests throughout the last century. The different chapters, exposed with technical rigor, but easy to read, are complemented by a summary that facilitates the approach to the topics covered. Under an informative approach, the book is addressed not only to specialists, but also to the inhabitants of the territory so that they can have a sectoral vision of their own history.
