By taking two different approaches, this volume analyzes the loss of naval vessels occurred during the Indies run. On the one hand, it studies the intervention of individuals that became contractors on their own initiative and negotiated with the authorities a ransom for the lost vessels. On the other hand, it intends to bring readers closer to Spanish engineering from the period between the 16th and the 18th century.
