The period between the middle of the 16th century and the beginning of the 17th century was unstable and tumultuous. In fact, the situation worsened in the Valencian diocese due to the morisco issue. Several measures were promoted to acculturate this group of people and, in this context, art was used as a tool to achieve this goal. This book provides a social approach to Valencia’s artistic dimension during the Middle Ages and analyzes several trends of thought that had an influence on the development of painting during this period.
