From precolonial Tenochtitlan to the contemporary Federal District, Mexico has experienced the appearance and development of several forms of urban culture throughout its history. This text analyzes the views provided by anthropologists that linked them to the country’s urbanization process, to the institutional and sociopolitical context, to the history of the National School of Anthropology and to other scientific, literary and cinematographic ways of understanding metropolitan life.
