To study the relationship of Lleida’s population with the Estudi General students during its first century of existence as the most relevant high culture institution of the Middle Ages, the author uses two urban pieces of documentary evidence from the 14th century. The first one hundred years of Lleida’s Estudi General can give us information about its long-lasting strengths and weaknesses. This was an urban institution established by the king and linked to its city and the instability of the city’s coffers. The documentary appendix includes a selection of the analyzed documents, that offers the readers access to their lexical wealth and everyday style.
