This first Gramàtica de grec modern en català is intended for those who have no previous knowledge of Greek and who need to read the grammar commentaries in their own language. But it also aims to facilitate the study of Neo-Greek for students of various levels of the Greek language. At the same time, numerous and pertinent examples from Greek are provided, always translated into Catalan, in order to ease the understanding of the grammatical structures previously described and commented on.
The grammar presented here is based on the popular variety (dimotiki), which is the official Greek language that everyone speaks and which is learned at school. But when appropriate, a reference is made to the archaic variety (katharévussa), similar, but not equal, to the classical Greek language, due to its important and permanent presence in the cultured, formal and literary language of the modern Greek language.
The third volume of the collection “Polyeideia”, by Víctor Valls, is a grammar especially aimed at students in general, university students from the Erasmus program that takes place in Greece, or people who learn Greek for professional or personal reasons. In short, an essential book to pedagogically go deep into the meanders of modern Greek and to understand it better.
