When Galen lived, the concepts nutritionist and dietitian didn’t exist. However, by reading his works, we can appreciate his broad knowledge of plants, animals and other natural elements that were used in the Greco-Roman era for their properties. In other words, his texts make clear he was a pioneer when it came to diet. This book includes a translation of Galen’s On the Properties of Foodstuffs (De alimentorum facultatibus), which was published in three volumes, alongside his notes on the properties of each one of the plants and animals included.
