This text reconstructs the content and structure of the Escorial museum during the second half of the 17th century. This reconstruction has been possible thanks to several literary sources such as the four editions of “Descripció breu del Monestir” by Francisco dels Santos. The museum was an initiative created by Felipe IV. It contained an exhibition of paintings that included a remarkable amount of works by Diego Velázquez.
