Collecting’s modern dimension is born from the Italian Renaissance and lasts until our current times. At this moment, being a collector is positively valued by society. In fact, it is considered to be a driving force in the contemporary art market and guarantee for the preservation of ancient artworks. For a country, having expert collectors is a sign of intellectual and patrimonial maturity. Since the 19th century, in Catalonia, several private and institutional remarkable collections have been created. For example, the ones belonging to Catalonia’s diocesan museums and those from Bacelona’s museums. The determination and enthusiasm of their creators have been a key factor to enrich and create the existing Catalan museums. Rescuing collector’s biographical memory while taking into account the content and creation process of their collections is an intellectual challenge for researchers and a positive gesture for culture.
