In the last forty years, medium-sized Spanish cities have undergone profound urban transformations that have had a notable impact on their structure and morphology. However, these changes are not homogeneous and vary depending on the geographical position of each city, the dynamism of the territorial systems in which they are integrated and the characteristics of the policies applied at the local level. The book interrelates the dynamics of urban growth with the urban policies deployed in medium-sized cities in the period 1979-2019. Special attention is paid to the general processes, which serve as a reference framework for the whole, specific analysis methodologies are proposed and thirteen specific case studies are displayed. In each of them, the dynamics of urbanization, the development and the characteristics of the approved urban planning are examined, as well as the main materialized projects. The joint reading helps to understand the progress and range of the transformations produced since the beginning of the democratic city councils.
