Since the end of the 19^th century, passion for art collecting has prevailed in Catalonia and has encouraged the development of our current museum and foundation system. In fact, interest in collecting has increased so much that is now considered a dynamic and recognized academic field of expertise in universities. Written by recognized experts on Catalan art history, the ten texts included in this volume focus on the close relationship between antiques dealers, experts, museums and collectors in the context of Catalonia from the last decades of the 19^th century until the end of the 20^th century. The contribution of this book consists in approaching collecting from a historical point of view and in studying, for the first time, this phenomenon from the point of view of different and complementary academic and professional forms of education.
