This book includes the knowledge gathered during the last decades about the cultivation of alfalfa in Spain. This has been possible thanks to the collaboration of researchers that have contributed with the results of their projects, agronomists from public organizations and companies that have provided information and revised many of its chapters.
The book focuses on the traditional aspects of this crop: choice of varieties, fertilization and irrigation techniques, the effects of cutting management, the control of weeds, pests and diseases, and the use of alfalfa for animal feed. In addition, less common chapters are included: seed production, alfalfa in dry areas, phytotoxicity, the effects of mycotoxins and the effects of its cultivation on the environment.
The purpose of this book is to gather the information obtained in Spain about alfalfa production techniques. This information can be useful for farmers and agronomists that work with this crop, which is considered essential from a productive and environmental point of view.
