Teresa Pàmies defined the teachers of the Republic who made the lands of Lleida a focus of pedagogical renovation as agitators of consciences.
The story, between memory and fiction, shows the personal and professional experiences of some teachers, Martí and Maria, who were convinced that education and culture were fundamental to progress.
The novel shows what the arrival of the Republic, the Batec group, the Active School and the Freinet Techniques, the Federation of Education Workers (FETE), the Pedagogical Missions, the war, the Cultural Militias, the International Brigades, life in the concentration camps, exile, the return to post-war Lleida and repression meant, until we reach a time full of doubts, hopes and contradictions: the transition to democracy.
The second part, “Let us recover those who have been forgotten”, is a glossary of several of those stirrers of conscience on whom the fascist claws decreed silence.
A bibliographic search, social networks, visits to archives – including that of the University of Lleida – and private sources, both oral and written, have made this account possible.
