Ramon Currià i Caelles (Almatret, 1881 – Lleida, 1961) was a music educationist, pianist, organist, and composer who played a prominent role in the musical life of Lleida in the first half of the 20th century.
He taught music at the Lleida Teacher Training School for much of his life and also at numerous schools. The most abundant part of his production is his numerous and high-quality school songs. In some of them, he added aerobic choreographic indications, following the movement linked to Dalcroze rhythm, the pedagogical avant-garde of the time.
Currià was a versatile musician: a brilliant improviser, liturgical organist, choir director, and member of light music ensembles that entertained cafés and cinemas. In all these fields, he has left us compositions that demonstrate his talent and skill, although many of them remain lost and scattered in archives. This book does justice to this character, who deserves to be brought out of oblivion; with it, we travel through a period of political turmoil, lived intensely, and to which Currià lends a musical tone deeply rooted in the society of the time and in the region of Lleida.
