L’Almoina de Lleida. Gestió de la caritat al segle XIV

This book analyzes the Almoina institution of Lleida during the 14th century through a study of its account books. The preserved records an approach to the institution’s inner workings, its daily operations, income and expenses, and the evolution of its activity throughout the century.

The work begins by contextualizing the Almoina within the framework of assistance to the poor and focuses on the systematic analysis of the accounting documentation. It examines the main sources of income, such as land rents and annuity payments, as well as expenses related to welfare assistance, staff salaries, and the acquisition of supplies. The study provides a quantification and comparison of economic data throught different years, revealing changes in management and the volume of resources.

The work offers a reconstruction of the Almoina’s daily activities and highlights the value of documentary sources for understanding the role of this institution and providing new insights into the social and economic history of Lleida in the Late Middle Ages.
