The philosophical discourse often suffers from a certain forced intonation, as if, out of an inferiority complex confronting science, it sought to disguise its argumentative weaknesses, given that in philosophy everything can be called into question. This book claims “philosophy in its natural state”, that is, without makeup, with a style that recognizes its specific epistemological characteristics and eschews rhetoric. In the first part, entitled “In Praise of Philosophy”—in Maragall’s sense of the term “praise”, not incompatible with a vigilant attitude—four key questions are addressed from this perspective: the legitimacy of philosophy in the age of science, its relationship with the universality of having a state of health, and the need to describe it in the present, both internationally and in our country. In the second part, “A Marvelous Triad”, Pere Lluís Font focuses on Montaigne, Descartes, and Pascal, three masters-of-thought who share philosophical originality and a natural style, and who constitute a complete culture in themselves.
